Australian Shepherd Is Lost For Four Months But Is Luckily Found 70 Miles Away From Home

Belle Ava August 31, 2022

Some adventurous dogs don’t have an idea where they’re going. It’s just natural that they have some fun exploring new places. But sometimes, they actually stray too far from their home and eventually get lost.

Jinks, an Australian Shepherd, is one fine example of those adventurous pooches who love discovering new and exciting spots. He ventured into the unknown, exploring unchartered territories without any inhibitions. And because of that, he went missing for four months! However, his family managed to find him 70 miles away from home.

How did Jinks get lost?

For the last few months, the Australian Shepherd in question had been on a long journey away from his family. The three-year-old pooch was on a camping trip with his fur parents when he got lost in the woods. Kim and Don, Jinks’ owners, started a search and rescue operation to find the missing pooch. They ultimately stayed at the Ocqueoc Falls State Forest Campground in Michigan where they planned their next move.

Ultimately, Kim and Don went home empty-handed. They were also unsure of their dog’s fate.

Jinks and his family are now reunited!

It turned out that Jinks was also trying to find his way back to his owners. However, he went in a different direction. Four months later, someone found Jinks in the city of Charlevoix, Michigan.

Susan and Randy Hitts, both pastors, found the dog all curled up under their recreational vehicle (RV), which coincidentally looked like Kim and Don’s RV.

Susan temporarily took care of Jinks, and while doing so, she found a collar and ID tags around the dog’s neck. The kind woman then contacted the number found in one of the tags. After confirming the pup’s origin, Susan was surprised by the distance that Jinks had traveled before he stumbled upon their RV.

Susan decided to return the dog to his family. She then drove 40 miles to Jinks’ family to facilitate the reunion.

In the end, Susan got to witness a beautiful and tear-jerking reunion. And it was evident that Jinks was happy to be home once again.
