Speck had been living in the shelter for over a year and a half, and he had only one thing in mind—to find a forever home. But it was not as easy as he thought. Every time people would come to the shelter, they would just pass by his cage and adopt other dogs.
Speck thought he had to take matters into his own paws if he wanted to get adopted. His love language was physical touch, so he used it to his advantage. The next time people came to the shelter, all he did was stretch one of his paws out and give them a warm greeting.
Speck’s strategy seemed to work—people started giving him more attention. Desiray Miracle-Wilder, director of The Bullock County Humane Society, also noticed the change in Speck’s behavior. When Speck reached his paw out to her and her family, she captured the heartwarming moment on camera and shared the video on her social media account.
Desiray was surprised when the video went viral—currently, it has more than 200,000 views. She got a lot of messages from people who were willing to adopt Speck, and she couldn’t be happier. She had been wondering how such a loving dog had long been overlooked in the shelter, so she felt glad that many people were interested in giving him a forever home.
After a series of email exchanges, Desiray was able to find the perfect home for Speck, but it was in upstate New York. Desiray was not sure how she could move Speck on her own. Good thing, the Allie’s Hope for Paws in Alabama stepped in to help bring Speck to his new NY home.
Desiray could not thank the wonderful rescue group enough for extending help. She looked forward to the day when Speck finally meets his new family because he surely deserves one.
