Mark and Karen Heuwetter own a microbrewery in Long Island, New York called Six Harbors Brewing Company. They have made a good following from the locals who love their craft beer. And now, their sales have gotten even bigger, thanks to their pets, who have become viral because of their participation in the family business.
The brew dogs
The family owns two Labrador Retrievers, Barley and Buddy. When the business started in 2018, the dogs always joined their owners while working at the facility. They would lounge around and greet the employees and visitors.
Because they were very friendly, everyone adored the pups. But when the pandemic hit and the people were forced to stay at home, Barley and Buddy played a more significant role in the business.
Delivering beer and happiness
Mark and Karen knew that the people wanted their beer, but they couldn’t leave their homes. So they started offering a delivery option. The owners themselves would deliver their product, and their dogs went along with them.
They noticed that their pets were very excited whenever they would join in bringing the products to the customers. The people were also thrilled to see the dogs. So they thought of making it look like the dogs themselves were doing the delivery.
The couple made them a rope necklace with a six-pack attached to it. The cans are empty, as they are heavy, and the beer inside would get shaken up when they walk or run. The owners, wearing masks and gloves, would carry the actual beer.
Their customers totally loved the idea, and they started asking if they could get pictures with the dogs. Even their kids would join them in showing the pups some love. Those adorable photos almost instantly went viral on Facebook, and the dogs became local celebrities. They even got featured in several popular TV shows and news outlets.
