Without a doubt, a dog is anyone’s best friend. Not only that, but dogs are also considered heroes for always protecting their human buddies. Whenever their owner gets into trouble, as a furry friend, they come to the rescue. Now, just as what an ordinary and loyal dog would do to his owner, Figo, a Golden Retriever, saved his owner’s life.
Figo is both a friend and a guide dog of his blind owner, Audrey Stone. One day as the two were crossing the streets, Audrey, being deprived of her sight, didn’t see the approaching bus. Unhesitantly, Figo jumped in front of the bus to save Audrey’s life.
He went in between Audrey and the bus, which brought him into a severe injury. But regardless of how badly hurt he was, he stayed by Audrey’s side and never left her until help arrived on the scene.
The heroic deed that he showed captivated the hearts of many from across the globe. A lot of people sent him gifts and well wishes as he had undergone surgery in the hospital. He also spent time with his trainers to get back to his duty as a service dog.
Both Figo and Audrey needed enough time to recover from their injuries before they could finally meet again and get back to their used-to-be lives. Finally, after so many months, Figo fully recovered and healed that he came back home to his owner. For what he did, he also received a hero’s welcome.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals awarded and dubbed Figo as the Dog of the Year. However, the praises and honor he got never made him happy that much because to him, what matters the most and what makes him happy enough is his owner’s love and care. He couldn’t ask for more but to see how safe Audrey is and to be with her for a lifetime.
