Odin, The Dog With A Weird-looking Smile, Finally Gets Adopted After Staying In The Shelter For Three Years

Odin, The Dog With A Weird-looking Smile, Finally Gets Adopted After Staying In The Shelter For Three Years

Belle Ava June 19, 2022

Odin was only a puppy when someone strapped an explosive to one of his paws. The device blew up, causing damage to his snout and part of his paw. Fortunately, someone managed to rush him to the hospital and he was given immediate medical attention.

After months of therapy, Odin was then turned over to an animal shelter. The staff took turns looking after him as he recovered from the accident. He ended up having a weird-looking smile because of the incident, but the humans around him didn’t think much of it. What mattered more to them was that he came out of that accident alive.

Three years in the making

Now, we all know that when most people adopt, they pay close attention to a dog’s physical features. Dogs that are deemed adorable find no trouble looking for forever homes. In fact, these cute canines are usually the first ones to get adopted. Dogs that look “odd,” however, have to stay in the shelter for an awfully long time before finding families that are willing to welcome them into their homes.

The staff decided to help Odin out by sharing his photos online. A businesswoman named Claiciene Costa Kobayashi chanced upon his photos and was instantly smitten by him. She immediately called the shelter to express her interest in adopting Odin. To show the staff how serious she was, she drove all the way to São José dos Campos from Santa Bárbara d’Oeste just to see him. Her determination was rewarded when the staff gave her the go signal to adopt the furball.

New life, new name

Kobayashi was also the one who gave Odin his name. She took inspiration from Viking mythology, where the name “Odin” belongs to the supreme chief of Asgard. Interestingly, he’s also considered the god of wisdom and protector of the dead.

Odin is now living his best life with Kobayashi. He also has over 12,000 followers on Instagram, making him one of the famous dogs on the popular social media platform.
