Tiki, a six-year-old cattle dog, had to climb to the top to achieve her all-star pup status. Time was running out for her at the municipal shelter, but an angel rescued her just in time. On the day she was about to be euthanized, someone adopted her and took care of her while recovering from mammary tumors and heartworm diseases.
In an interview with Daily Paws online, Jen Towers of New York’s Lead the Pack Dog Training said she was immediately smitten with Tiki after learning about her story. Towers worked for the organization known for its dock diving training and agility classes through a Fast CAT, where dogs chase a plastic bag while on a line.
Tiki’s love for dog sports and unique skills immediately came to light. Towers quickly saw this potential and became attached to the talented pup. But despite her talents, Tiki struggled with focus and impulse control. However, her trainers were still amazed by her intuition and capabilities.
Months after rigorous training, the all-star pup eventually learned to be comfortable with humans. Her hard work started paying off, earning her several championship titles and winning several cross-country competitions!
Tiki and Jen traveled the country for agility competitions during her first year of adoption. They participated in the World Invite championship for Tennessee dock diving and joined the North American Diving Dogs national competition in Florida. While Tiki is naturally sports-loving, she particularly excels at playing the frisbee.
Towers own four other rescue dogs, but nobody stands out as Tiki does! She loves giving everyone a good time by showing her frisbee-catching skills. And if life was a sport, you could count on Tiki to be its best player!
Happy tails, Tiki! We’re proud of your accomplishments!
