Rascal is a Pomeranian that lived in a cramped cage for the first seven years of his life. A backyard breeder owned him, and his sole purpose was to be a stud. The poor pooch barely had any affection shown towards him. His whole life would have been lonely and sad, but fortunately for him, the authorities closed his owner’s illegal operation.
The rescued animals were brought to different government-run shelters, with others going to nonprofit animal charity organizations.
Rascal spent only a short time in the care of a local shelter and was soon adopted by a retail business owner from New Jersey named Hayley Compton.
Good luck charm
Hayley found Rascal online while she was looking for a dog to adopt. She just had a difficult year, losing her grandmother and her job then. She needed a constant companion and thought getting a dog would be helpful for her.
When she saw the seven-year-old pooch, Hayley fell in love right away. She adopted Rascal, and soon, she was feeling better. Things turned around for her, and she co-founded a retail business. The young woman credited her pet for clearing her mind and getting her back on track.
Hayley considered the dog her good luck charm and took her everywhere she went.
Whatever it takes
When Hayley visited her parents in North Carolina, she drove 500 miles with Rascal accompanying her. What would have been a happy reunion with her family turned into a tragedy when the dog was able to slip out their front door. The dog owner was devastated when she learned her pet was missing.
Together with family and friends, Hayley did everything possible to find the dog. They checked every animal shelter and clinic, passed flyers, placed missing posters, and spread the story online. They even hired tracking dogs and offered a reward.
One day, a resident near their family home called them and said she saw a dog resembling Rascal. Her ring camera even recorded the pooch passing by the house. Hayley and her dad went to the caller’s residence and waited for Rascal to return.
They even placed a trap near the home to increase their chances of getting the elusive pooch back. In less than an hour, Rascal was inside the cage.
Hayley was in tears as she hugged her pet. She was so happy to have him back and would never have given up looking for him.
