It was a typical day for Junior Cook to cruise around the Canadian Isle. He didn’t expect to encounter an unfortunate and unpleasant scene. Reaching near Cross Keys, Manitoba, he heard noises from a nearby deserted island. The noises got into him and made him curious about its origins.
As he was unsure if he was ready to go to the island and check what the noise was all about, he decided to return and check the area the following day. He was stunned and, at the same time, saddened by what he saw. It was shocking that seven puppies were crying and roaming around the island.
He saw how the puppies looked hungry and sickly, so he immediately called Norway House Animal Rescue to help him rescue them and bring them to a safe place. The rescuers shared that this was not the first time they got calls about abandoned puppies. Unfortunately, they hear cases about this almost every single day.
Due to the need to make transport arrangements, Cook and the rescuers gave food to the puppies to help ease their hunger and provide them with the idea that help was coming. The puppies were indeed starving as they were so excited to see people bringing them food. They even finished eating a massive bag of dog food.
As Cook and the rescuers tend to the puppies’ needs, they gradually earn the trust of the puppies. The seven pups would run to them and shower them with cuddles. After some time, the puppies were successfully rescued.
The rescuers finally arranged the transport plans for the puppies and took a 330-mile trip to Winnipeg. To mark the puppies’ fantastic rescue story, they named them the Gilligan’s Island Crew, inspired by a famous 1960s TV show.
Now, the puppies are in a safe and cozy shelter. The rescuers believe these cute pups will someday get a home that will suit them and make them forget their awful experience on the island.
