Isn’t being the last person chosen for a group activity or game frustrating? Every day, shelter pets go through the same thing. Potential adopters visit animal shelters, but the dogs must be more assured they will get chosen.
One pit bull named Rush was one of the dogs at the SISCA Pet Adoption Center who longed for a kind family to adopt him. However, whenever people came to the center, they just walked past him.
As time passed, no one showed any interest in Rush, and he began to doubt himself. People didn’t pay much attention to Rush because pit bulls are known to be very aggressive. However, he was very determined to get adopted.
So, Rush made it his mission to show everyone their ideas about him needed to be corrected.
One morning, staff members saw Rush making his bed by dragging the sheets with his teeth until they were in excellent order. They were impressed by how responsible this act was.
Surprisingly, it didn’t just happen once. Rush kept doing this to show the staff that he was polite, responsible, and a good candidate for adoption.
And so, one member made a video of Rush doing his bedtime routine, hoping it would help him find a new place to live. Indeed, this strategy worked as the staff put the video on YouTube, where millions of people watched it.
They used their newfound fame to tell people that pit bulls are not dangerous animals and make great pets. This awareness helped a lot of pit bulls find their own homes.
Meanwhile, a couple who had just lost their dog went online to read about Rush. They were hesitant at first to get a new dog. But they changed their minds when they saw Rush’s eagerness to be taken in.
They went to the SISCA adoption center to meet the hardworking pit bull. They were drawn to him right away, which made Rush very happy. He finally found a loving family willing to care for him.
Rush would still live on the streets if he hadn’t been so determined. He showed that even “aggressive” breeds can be good pets if loved and cared for correctly.
