For some people, pit bulls don’t make the best family pets. Pit bulls have muscular bodies and unfriendly-looking faces. But when you go beyond their physical appearance and negative stereotyping, you’ll find that pit bulls are some of the fiercest protectors a family can ever have. And the Smiths can attest to this.
A scary break-in
Shane Smith, a nine-year-old boy, was left alone at home while his parents fetched his siblings at school. Suddenly, Shane heard some noise at their door. At first, the boy thought it was just his mom trying to open the door. But after a few seconds, he realized that it was a stranger wearing a ski mask breaking into their home.
Shane got very scared so he tried to run upstairs to hide. The man chased after him. Shane was terrified at how menacingly the man looked at him. It was clear to Shane that the man wanted to hurt him.
Brave Baby Girl
Shane called their pit bull, Baby Girl, and the dog instantly came to the rescue. The pit bull bounded between Shane and the intruder. She fought the man with all her might. But the burglar pulled the blinds over the dog’s head, giving him a moment to escape. He fled the house, dashed straight towards a silver car, and drove off.
The neighbors heard of the commotion and reported the incident to Shane’s mom. Mrs. Smith was so relieved to find both Shane and Baby Girl unharmed. She knew Baby Girl’s presence made a huge difference. If it weren’t for her, Shane might have been harmed, or worse.
This only proves that devoted dogs will do everything to save their family’s life, even if it means risking theirs. Watch Baby Girl’s brave story in the video below.
