There are so many stray dogs that are needlessly euthanized because they are labeled as unadoptable or aggressive. We have to keep in mind that most of these dogs are terrified and aren’t acting aggressively because they want to hurt people. Stray dogs only act aggressively towards humans because of two main reasons. It’s either they haven’t had any experience what it’s like to have a human companion, or that they were physically abused or neglected by humans before.
Stray dogs act the way they do because they’re terrified. These dogs are misunderstood, and it’s just a matter of showing them kindness and love to win their trust. Once you gain their trust, you’ll see that these dogs will show their real personality.
A woman named Remi came across a dog that was being kept in a part of the animal shelter where dogs are labeled as “rescue only.” Dogs kept in rescue only kennels are dogs that aren’t available to be adopted by the general public. Only rescue organizations can adopt these dogs, and if no one adopts the dogs kept in this part of the animal shelter, the dogs are put to sleep.
The dog Remi grew fond of is named Ara. Ara is a very shy dog who hasn’t learned how to be with a human. Ara doesn’t make eye contact with any humans, even with Remi. The lack of social skills and inadequate behavioral assessment resulted in Ara being labeled as a rescue only dog, which means that Remi is unable to adopt her.
Remi was devastated when she heard the bad news. Remi wanted to adopt Ara. Because Ara was labeled as rescue only, Remi’s only chance is to find an animal rescue organization willing to adopt Ara for her. She also knew that she didn’t have a lot of time left before Ara is put to sleep.
Thankfully, Remi found out that one of the volunteers at the shelter knew people at a local animal rescue organization. The woman knew how Remi really loved Ara and that she’s not going to let the shelter euthanize Ara on her watch. After getting in touch with the animal rescue organization, Remi was informed that the animal rescue organization was willing to pull Ara out of the shelter.
When Remi arrived at the shelter, a man from the rescue was already there with Ara. Ara was handed over to Remi, and Remi took Ara home for the first time where Ara’s going to have a new life as a free dog. Ara met her two new doggie siblings, and she now enjoys going on walks with her new family.
Remi couldn’t be happier to have Ara in her pack. Ara eventually started opening up and showed more of her loving and playful personality when she got comfortable in her new environment. Here’s a heartwarming video showing how one woman changed the life of a dog who was already in the shelter kill-list.
