Dog rescuer Lisa Chiarelli spotted a black Pitbull at a Los Angeles garbage dump while she was driving through the area. The dog appeared so lost and sad in the pouring rain that Lisa stopped the car with the intention of retrieving the animal. But the dog was really scared that it didn’t want to go inside the vehicle. It chose to flee instead.
Lisa drove through the large recycling facility, but she was unable to locate the dog. She could not stop thinking about it, so she returned the next day. She saw her again and began feeding her. Lisa observed that while the dog was not malnourished, she had been recently abandoned.
Lisa returned with a friend the following day. They brought a trap but were unsuccessful in capturing her. After that, the dog refused to approach her again. However, Lisa was concerned about her and refused to give up on rescuing her.
The woman repeatedly returned to the landfill. She put up a feeding station and drove over several times a day to see that the dog was still returning. After two weeks, she returned with a buddy to lay another trap. This time, they gave her several days to adjust to the trap by leaving food inside.
They finally captured her after 21 days and brought her to the veterinarian. Lisa sat with her for a while to help her relax because she was in an unfamiliar area with unfamiliar people. Soon, the dog permitted them to touch and pet her.
Lisa would return over the next few days to bathe her or bring her a hamburger. The dog began to anticipate her arrival and greeted her with a wagging tail. Before the end of that week, she already started playing with Lisa and gave her kisses.
The kind woman discovered a family interested in adopting the dog one month after she rescued her. The family had previously owned a black Pitbull, so she was confident that they would adore her.
The dog was named Xena. It took Xena some time to become accustomed to her new surroundings, but once she did, her happy and playful side became apparent. She was living the good life in California and spends time unwinding at home or going to the park or even the beach with her new family.
